Urban Klima 2050 is presented in Brussels as a benchmark for nature-based solutions and climate governance
17/02/2026
The project was presented at the NATURANCE Finance Innovation Festival 2026 by the European Regions4 network as a benchmark for climate governance and urban adaptation.
The LIFE IP Urban Klima 2050 project took part in the NATURANCE Finance Innovation Festival 2026, held in Brussels on 3-5 February, the leading European event for nature finance and climate change adaptation. The project was presented by the Regions4 network, which talked about the efforts of the Basque Country and Ihobe within the framework of this international forum.
Urban Klima 2050 was presented as a case study in the interactive session called “Seeds of Change: Citizens & Cities”, focusing on citizen participation and the implementation of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in urban environments. The presentation talked about the project’s approach, which integrates climate action, urban planning and multi-level governance to strengthen the resilience of the territory to climate change.
The presentation took place on the third day of the festival, which was about the collective impact and legacy of projects. On this day, experiences of European projects, case studies and the vision of citizens were shared. The final sessions highlighted the importance of promoting scalable and locally adapted approaches, as well as combining NbS, data and funding to strengthen resilience, promote equity and connect local projects with European strategies.
Attendees were quite interested in the presentation of Urban Klima 2050: they particularly liked the Basque Country’s integrated approach to climate governance, articulated through various institutional levels and sectors.
The NATURANCE Finance Innovation Festival brought together more than 150 participants per day, including policymakers, researchers, financial institutions and professionals from all over Europe. It proved that it is key platform to make the Basque Country’s leadership in climate action visible to the international community connected with adaptation and nature finance.
Furthermore, the Urban Klima 2050 case study, which can be found on the Regions4 Case Study Database, has already been downloaded more than 1,300 times. This reflects the high international interest in the project and in the climate action model being developed in the Basque Country.
