The LIFE Urban Klima 2050 and LIFE Coala projects share climate change adaptation strategies at a municipal level
24/09/2024
In the first joint working session with the Czech Republic project, Urban Klima 2050 has presented some of its actions aimed at the empowerment of citizens and local governance.
In its desire to transform the Basque territory and develop actions that can be replicated in other areas of the Basque Country and the European Union, the LIFE IP Urban Klima 2050 project is working with different national and international projects and networks to establish collaborative ties, exchange climate action experiences and good practices and share results.
In this context, the first working session with the LIFE Coala project (Czech Republic), which aims to successfully implement the objectives of the 'Strategy for adaptation of the Moravian-Silesian Region to the impact of climate change', was held on 20th September 2024. During the meeting, both projects had the opportunity to present their areas of work related to climate change adaptation and mitigation in their respective regions.
Urban Klima 2050 presented the 5 blocks it is working on: Analyse, Define, Act, Empower and Manage, and detailed some of the actions implemented in each of them. Among them, Urban Klima 2050 showed the climate scenario viewer developed by Ihobe, which enables the projections of different climate variables in the Basque Country to be analysed; presented work carried out in the development of the future long-term roadmap for energy transition and climate change; presented actions in the territory, such as the recovery of the Tonpoi (Bermeo) natural space for public use, or the renaturalisation of the Errekatxulo regatta (Donostia/San Sebastián); detailed the actions aimed at promoting the commitment and training of the population and the administration in the face of climate change; and ended by mentioning the creation of structures for climate governance.
The two projects have scheduled the next working meeting to continue to move forward in the exchange of data and good practices.
