The 1.25 MW photovoltaic installation with energy storage will involve investment of €1.6 million and is promoted by EVE within the framework of the LIFE IP Urban Klima 2050 project.
The Bilbao Exhibition Centre will have a new 1.25 MW solar photovoltaic installation with a 1.2 MWh energy storage system to optimise the use of renewable energy at its facilities. The action is driven by the Basque Energy Agency (EVE), a partner of LIFE IP Urban Klima 2050, and will involve investment of more than €1.6 million, co-financed by the European project.
The initiative, which has already been put out to tender, includes the design and implementation of a photovoltaic installation on the roof of Hall 2 at BEC, as well as the implementation of a smart energy management system and a maintenance service for the first two years of operation. This infrastructure will be added to the one installed last year, reinforcing the energy self-sufficiency of the venue and reducing its carbon footprint.
This action is in line with the decarbonisation objectives of public buildings, as well as being an example of how large exhibition spaces can become active generators and managers of renewable energy.
