The aim of the climate change and gender perspective pilot project is to share and generate resources in order to effectively and practically share ways of ensuring climate change and equality criteria in everyday activities of municipal management.
Udalsarea 2030 and Berdinsarea – a network of Basque towns for gender equality and against gender-based violence promoted by Emakunde and Eudel –, together with the Climate Action Area at Ihobe and Emakunde, have launched a climate change and gender perspective pilot project.
The aim of the project is to share and generate resources in order to effectively and practically share ways of ensuring climate change and equality criteria in everyday areas of municipal management. To this end, municipal and county technical staff will collaborate to share local needs in order to inform the resources to be generated.
The project aims to establish practical rules to ensure that local services and areas take into account essential aspects of climate change and gender perspective when carrying out their usual activities.
On 12 December, the first of two sessions was held at the Andretxea Centre in Eibar, in which a total of 14 local entities, 2 regional entities and 12 town councils took part: Amorebieta-Etxano, Amurrio, Azpeitia, Balmaseda, Cuadrilla de Gorbeialdea, Donostia-San Sebastián, Eibar, Ermua, Gernika-Lumo, Hernani, Ispaster, Mancomunidad de Nerbioi-Ibaizabal, Urduña and Vitoria-Gasteiz. In this session, the pilot project was presented, local areas and activities were identified, resources were worked on and two previously developed examples were compared. This first session focused on climate and equality when conducting surveys and organising local festivals.
The entities were represented by environmental and equality technical staff and the same formula is expected to be followed for the second session, in which the first versions of the resources and the ways to use them will be worked on in depth.
