They will work together to move forward on environmental commitments, through the development of tools and the use of existing scientific knowledge.
Ihobe, the Basque Government's Public Company for Environmental Management, and Neiker, the Basque Institute for Agricultural Research and Development, have renewed their collaboration agreement in order to strengthen environmental sustainability through the use of knowledge.
The agreement was signed by Alexander Boto Bastegieta, General Manager of Ihobe, and Olatz Unamunzaga Galarza, General Manager of Neiker, who stressed the importance of joining forces to face existing and future environmental challenges. The agreement will initially last for four years, with detailed annual planning. Ihobe and Neiker have a long history of working together, and this agreement will improve the information available on CO2 absorption, which is necessary for climate neutrality, the calculation of emissions from the agricultural sector, and changes in land use.
The General Manager of Ihobe, Alexander Boto Bastegieta, highlighted that the agreement with Neiker "is a clear example of how collaboration between administrations can become a key driver to accelerate the ecological transition in the Basque Country". According to Boto, "joining capacities of public entities with a vocation for transformation enables us to advance in the integration of environmental criteria in strategic sectors, such as farming, generating useful knowledge, innovative solutions and applicable tools that contribute to a more sustainable and resilient Basque Country".
The General Manager of Neiker, Olatz Unamunzaga Galarza, pointed out that "this collaboration reinforces our commitment to useful and applied public research in order to address major environmental challenges". In her opinion, "joining capacities with Ihobe enables us to move forward in the development of knowledge and tools that contribute to a more sustainable, resilient Basque Country that is aligned with the objectives of climate neutrality".
