The event will mark the conclusion of LIFE IP Urban Klima 2050, a project led by the Basque Government through Ihobe which has promoted 40 climate change adaptation measures in the Basque Country in conjunction with 23 partner organisations.
ADAPT AKTION Euskadi 2050 will bring together institutional representatives, technical staff and actors involved in climate action to share results, experiences and lessons learnt.
The second day will include technical visits to pilot projects being developed in Alava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa.
ADAPT AKTION Euskadi 2050 Forum on Solutions to Climate Change Adaptation will be held in Bilbao on 24 and 25 November. It is an event designed to share the key findings, experiences and lessons learnt within the framework of the LIFE IP Urban Klima 2050 project, and to analyse the challenges that will shape the next phase of climate change adaptation in the Basque Country.
The forum will mark the conclusion of LIFE IP Urban Klima 2050, a project led by the Basque Government through the Ihobe public company and developed in conjunction with 23 partner organisations, including regional, provincial and local authorities, public bodies, technology centres and research organisations. With investment of around €20 million, the initiative has supported 40 climate change adaptation measures in coastal areas, river basins and urban areas of the Basque Country, through initiatives related to flood prevention, environmental restoration, green infrastructures, urban resilience, energy or health. Furthermore, the project has produced tools and knowledge to integrate climate change adaptation into public planning and management.

A forum to share results and experiences
ADAPT AKTION Euskadi 2050 will bring together institutional representatives, technical staff, social actors and professionals related to climate action and adaptation to analyse the progress made in recent years and discuss the opportunities and challenges posed by climate change for the Basque Country.
The first day will combine presentations by institutional representatives, an international keynote speech, spaces for exchange with partner projects and sessions focused on the results and lessons learnt from Urban Klima 2050. The programme will also include themed round-table discussions focusing on different areas of action and a forum for reflection on the coming decade of climate action in the Basque Country.
The event will seek to pool solutions that have already been implemented across the region, share experiences and foster new forms of collaboration between organisations and professionals working in the field of climate change adaptation.
Three itineraries to understand climate change adaptation.
The second day will be devoted to technical visits to pilot projects being developed in the three historical territories. Those attending will be able to see first-hand some of the initiatives launched as part of Urban Klima 2050 to increase resilience to the impact of climate change.
The different itineraries will provide an insight into experiences related to adaptation to coastal and river flooding, environmental restoration, green infrastructures and increased ecological connectivity. These include projects being developed in areas such as Bakio and Zarautz, aimed at improving protection against flooding and the effects of rising sea levels; environmental restoration initiatives, such as Tonpoi, in Bermeo; green infrastructures and agrobiodiversity projects, such as Basaldea and Jundiz Park, in Vitoria-Gasteiz; and river restoration projects, such as the one carried out on the River Errekatxulo in Donostia-San Sebastian.
As well as showcasing the results achieved, ADAPT AKTION Euskadi 2050 will provide a forum to exchange knowledge, identify new challenges and share experiences that will help to drive forward climate change adaptation in the Basque Country.
