Ecological restoration of three forestry plots in Soraluze
Soraluze (Gipuzkoa) has recovered three forest plots in a degraded area on the southern slope of the Muskiritzu mountain range with the planting of 1,880 native trees.
The work was carried out on three plots, with a total extension of 2.88 hectares, located within a Zone of Interest for Environmental Functionality of the Gipuzkoa green infrastructure network, in Debabarrena. The three forest pots were forestry plantations for timber production (Larix sp. and Pinus radiata) until felling was carried out in 2020 and 2021.
The restored plots have been reforested with 1,880 native trees, mainly beech (Fagus sylvatica), oak (Quercus robur) and ash (Fraxinus excelsior). Soraluze Town Hall will allocate the restored plots for a minimum period of 30 years for nature conservation, thereby contributing to the resilience of the territory against climate change.
This initiative is part of action C.4.2 Key green infrastructure for improving urban-rural connection and the resilience of the territory.
