ASTEKLIMA, the Basque Country Climate and Energy Week, is back with prizes for the best public awareness-raising actions

ASTEKLIMA 2024 will be held from 18th to 27th October, under the slogan "Every action counts, no matter how small"
This fifth edition will reward the best public awareness-raising activities
The awards are aimed at local entities, educational centres, agents of the Basque Science, Technology and Innovation Network (RVCTI) and non-profit organisations
ASTEKLIMA, the Basque Country Climate and Energy Week, will be held in the three historical territories from 18th to 27th October 2024, under the slogan "Every action counts, no matter how small", with the aim of raising awareness and mobilising Basque society on the need for energy and climate transition. This latest 2024 edition includes new features, as the best activities to raise public awareness and co-responsibility in the field of climate change and energy transition will be rewarded
Like in previous years, ASTEKLIMA will bring together a wide range of activities and citizen actions aimed at mobilising action. From exhibitions, debates, workshops, theatre, cinema, children's games, storytelling, cycle rides, conferences, guided tours to technical seminars, there is a place for everything in this initiative organised by the Basque Government's Department of Industry, Energy Transition and Sustainability, through its public entities EVE, Basque Energy Agency, and Ihobe, Public Environmental Management Company.
All actions that wish to take part in the Basque Country Climate and Energy Week, ASTEKLIMA 2024, can be registered via the www.asteklima.eus website until 4th October.
Prizes for the best actions
In order to recognise the efforts of organisations and entities in the Basque Country in the field of raising public awareness and citizen co-responsibility in the field of climate change and energy transition, ASTEKLIMA 2024 will reward activities organised by local public entities, primary, secondary and vocational training centres, universities, agents of the Basque Science, Technology and Innovation Network (RVCTI), and non-profit organisations and NGOs in the Basque Country.
At the local level, municipalities, territorial entities working below the municipality level, local supra-municipal entities, local trading companies, development agencies and local autonomous bodies may participate.
The ASTEKLIMA 2024 prizes will be awarded in the following categories:
Best initiative in the Basque Autonomous Community, one for each Historical Territory
Best district initiative
Best initiative in a municipality with more than 20,000 inhabitants
Best initiative in a municipality with between 5,000 and 20,000 inhabitants
Best initiative in a municipality with less than 5,000 inhabitants
Best initiative in educational and vocational training centres
Best initiative in universities and agents in the Basque Science, Technology and Innovation Network
Best initiative in non-profit organisations
Prize money of €5,000 will be awarded to the "Best initiative in the Basque Autonomous Community" for each Historical Territory. In all the other categories, one prize of €3,000 and two runner-up prizes of €1,500 each will be awarded.
Presentation of applications and deadlines
The climate action and energy transition proposals submitted must be free of charge and aimed at citizens, taking place between 18th and 27th October 2024. Applications in Basque or Spanish, must be solely be submitted via the digital form that can be found on the www.asteklima.euswebsite. The deadline for applications is Friday, 4th October 2024 at 2pm.
Participation in these awards is open to public or private, non-profit legal entities based in the Basque Country, incorporated before 2024 and without any legal or administrative impediments to obtain public subsidies or grants. The prizes will be awarded in November and will be presented at a ceremony in which the activities and merits of the winning organisations will be presented in public.
