ASTEKLIMA Azoka, a travelling fair to mobilise Basque society to take action on climate change

22/09/2023

It will be open to visitors in Bilbao, Donostia/San Sebastian, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Bermeo, Trapaga, Bakio, Irun, Zarautz and Azpeitia between September 22 and October 1, as the central activity of the Basque Country Climate and Energy Week.

The aim of ASTEKLIMA AZOKA, an entertaining travelling fair that will tour nine Basque municipalities between September 22 and October 1, is to provide citizens with the keys to understanding the effects of climate change and to mobilise people to take action on climate change, as the central activity of the Basque Country Climate and Energy Week.

The initiative was possible thanks to the collaboration between the public company Ihobe, the Basque Energy Agency-EVE, the European LIFE Urban Klima 2050 project, the Basque network of sustainable municipalities-Udalsarea 2030, and the Ekoetxea network of environmental.

This fair can be visited in Bilbao, Donostia/San Sebastian, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Bermeo, Trapaga, Bakio, Irun, Zarautz and Azpeitia.

ASTEKLIMA Azoka offers a game dynamic in the form of a ‘passport’ so that people can carry out a self-diagnosis. This document will also provide information and possible actions. Visitors will use entertaining tools to navigate through different themes such as: what is climate change and the importance of taking action; how can we take action in our own homes; mobility, leisure and consumption; what does my municipality do; and individual commitment.

The fair consists of six tents with different games to raise awareness about different aspects of everyday life and their impact on climate change. The ultimate goal is for visitors to take on a challenge and commit themselves to taking action. A mobile application has been developed to facilitate compliance, which will help each person to change their habits over the next 21 days.
